The Views of Parents and Guardians on Baby and Toddler Flu Vaccinations

From February to June 2024, we talked to 315 parents and guardians about flu vaccinations for their babies and toddlers. This research was done with help from Public Health at Derbyshire County Council and was funded by the Integrated Care Board in the NHS. We did this research to help improve the flu vaccination campaign for babies and toddlers for winter 2024.

Most parents we spoke to felt positive about getting their children vaccinated against flu. Many had already done it or planned to do so. However, some parents didn't think it was important or decided not to vaccinate their children.

We learned three important things for parents who were unsure:

  1. Some parents would like more information on the flu vaccine for their child
  2. Some would like reassurance about the safety of the vaccine
  3. Easier access to the vaccine would help more babies and toddlers be vaccinated
